The McCandless Project

The "experiment" that I have chosen was to walk a totally different way to my classes at

school.  This seemed like a very interesting experiment to do.  Nobody really reacted to me because

I don't walk with anyone to my classes.  This might have scared the people that I normally see on my

way to my classes but that was probably it.  During this experiment I felt really weird because if my

class was right down the hall from my previous class I would go go a completely different way. Also

I was late to a couple of classes because I don't really know the whole school yet, I just know how to

get from one class to the next.  This was difficult in many ways.  My reaction kind of surprised me

because I thought it was going to be much more easier than it really was.  The people in the halls

were probably like "Huh, I wonder were that short freshman with the curly hair is."  And for the

people who saw me that didn't normally see me were probably puzzled also.  I'll have to talk to them

on Monday to say it was just an experiment for English class.  I don't really feel like I am "free"

because it was a project for school that is for a grade.  I feel like that's just like if Alex was being

filmed on a survival show.  Yes he is breaking away from what everybody else is doing but he

somewhat forced to do it and is not really fully free from reality with cameras in your face.  I like the

project and I think that it really connects to the book.  I think that we should have had more time to

do the project and to think of the experiment we were going to do.  I really wanted to do something

different and didn't have the time to think of anything that would work in a week. Overall I like the

assignment.

  1. The survivor analogy totally makes sense. I like your ideas a lot! I'll try to give everyone more time next year. :)
